Enigin Office Fun: Pen Kidnapping

posted by Enigin in Enigin News, Enigin Random!

Here’s an email I wrote to all Enigin Staff:

Dear All,

Sometime over the last month, my Enigin pen was kidnapped from my desk. The kidnappers haven’t yet posted any ransom demands but it’s only a matter of time. I (along with everyone else affected) am fearing the worst.

So for this afternoon only, i’m holding a Pen Amnesty. Whilst i’m out of the office you have an opportunity to return said pen. It’s easily identifiable because it’s got “ed’s pen” laser-engraved on it!

Please see attached artist’s impression of the violation…

If anyone knows where I can find the pen (or knows who has it) then you will be rewarded greatly.

Thank you!

Ed

Enigin Productivity Tip #3: Red Flag: The Rules

posted by enigin in Productivity

Enigin

This week, we are trialling a new ‘red flag’ system in the Enigin development department. We had our designer, Alan, create some flags which we attach to our Apple Cinema Displays with the help of Cocktail stirrers and bluetak. When we want some ‘concentration’ time we simply set the flag to the upright position, indicating that we don’t want to be disturbed unless it’s an emergency.

Here’s the full set of rules:

  • If the flag is in the upright position, then Enigin staff are encouraged not to disturb us unless absolutely necessary.
  • If an interruption is absolutely non-avoidable, then email is the preferred method of communication. Simply put ‘Urgent’ in the subject line.
  • The flag is only allowed to be raised for 3 hours at any one time. This allows your colleagues a period of time to get answers to their questions.
  • No sales calls should be forwarded to a ‘Red Flagger’
  • We have yet to come up with a punishment for Red Flag abusers, but rest assured, staff in violation will be dealt with swiftly!
(For the sake of my job, the above rules don’t apply to Directors of course!)

If you work for Enigin and would like your very own flag, then these can be purchased from the Development department for the tiny sum of £1.00

Around other Enigin assignments, we’ve been working on a side project. Can’t give anything away at the moment, but I think you’ll agree our designer Alan has produced the goods once again!

The Enigin Knowledge Base: It’s getting close now!

posted by enigin in Enigin Software

Enigin I’ve been spending this week working on our new knowledge base which will be launching in January 2010. The knowledge base will be a self-service system to allow our Distributors to find answers to common questions about our products and other useful information about how to promote and build your business.

We built the Enigin Knowledge Base on top of our Content Management System, Igloo. This gave us the flexibility to structure the new site to our requirements in a relatively short timeframe. In addition, it allows our team to manage new articles and content themselves.

This week our Business Development Team will be adding content to the ‘base including some tasty new screencast tutorials recorded by Calvin and myself. Video over the Internet is the perfect medium for learning and we are hoping that these new screencasts will be extremely useful for our Enigin Distributors.

Watch out for more news about the launch of our Knowledge Base in 2010!

Enigin uses ‘Business Intelligence’ to make smart decisions

This article is intended as an Introduction to Business Intelligence. More in-depth posts will be written over the coming months.

Business Intelligence (BI) is vital to the continued success of your enterprise. It enables you make smart decisions based on Statistics and facts by analysing data collected from your customers and business practices.

Wikipedia defines Business Intelligence as:

Business Intelligence (BI) refers to skills, processes, technologies, applications and practices used to support decision making.”

At Enigin, we utilise many different systems for use in our decision making. The most basic (but very, very powerful) is Google Analytics. This is provided free from Google for you to monitor activity on your website and includes reports about the ‘referrers’ who send traffic to your site. This allows you to monitor the best performing sources of traffic and adjust your marketing spend accordingly.

We have also built our own bespoke BI systems at Enigin allows us to track initial enquiries right through to Distributor appointment.
